Monitor capacity in power bi per user licence

Is there a way to analytically monitor usage in power bi premium per user capacity/license? I know about the Metrics app, but it only applies to Premium Capacity.

My problem is that lately few of our reports started to refresh much longer and I would like to find the reason

Hi @szymonUG

In Power BI Premium Per User (PPU), there isn't a direct Metrics app like in Premium Capacity. However, you can monitor usage and performance in PPU with the following:

  1. Power BI Admin Portal: You can check the Audit Logs and Usage Metrics for reports and datasets, which can give you insights into refresh times and activity.

  2. PowerShell Cmdlets: Use the Power BI PowerShell cmdlets to get refresh history and activity logs. Specifically, you can run commands like Get-PowerBIRefreshHistory to check dataset refresh times and performance.

  3. Workload Performance: If reports are slow to refresh, it may be due to workload capacity on the user's PPU license. You may need to optimize queries, reduce the dataset size, or check for any heavy data models impacting performance.

  4. Dataflow or Query Performance: Slow refresh times can also be due to complex queries or dataflow operations. Check if the data models are too large or complex and consider optimizing them.

These methods will help you troubleshoot the cause of the slower refresh times in your reports.
