No idea if this is the right section of the forums to ask this but none seemed like the right one either; forums really needs an OTHER or GENERAL section for those things that don't obviously fit into any Board
GOAL: Use Power Bi (preferably) Tiles or Report as the front end display mechanism for the data obtained via T-SQL Query from a Microsoft SQL Server databases that is not running in Azure. The SQL Server DB is hosted on a SQL Server 2016 box in a private cloud. I can access the SQL Server with dbo level permissions via the SQL Server tool known as SQL Server Mgt Studio however whatever I implement in Power BI I'd like for it to be usable by anyone in our organization.
The Query returns what is effectively Report Queue info from the DB for a private reporting service that is not in any way connected to Power BI, SSRS or any other Microsoft Tech so none of the standard alternatives you would use for SSRS or similiar are going to work. The Query is efficient and gives us what we need I just need a way to connect (preferably) a Power BI Tile on a Dashboard or alternatively a report to it so that it refreshes the query results every 60 seconds or maybe even less. I say preferably a tile because what I’ve learned so far with Power BI (I’m only part way thru a course on Power BI) leads me to believe that a tile on aa dashboard would work best but if that’s not true I’m open to suggestions. I’m well versed in all things SQL (in general) and T-SQL (specifically) but am new to Power Bi.
Hi @edcarden ,
Generally, you will need to use Power BI Desktop to connect datasource and create the report you want. Then publish the report to Power BI Service and share it with your organization. And you can refresh the dataset by managing Power BI Gateway.
