Guest users for Power BI

Hello, I am new to Power BI Pro.  I was suprised to find out when I subscribed to Pro, that I would have to add clients as a guest user on my MS account in order to share reports I am creating for them.  Looking for the reasoning behind this, as it is a huge administrative burden to keep track of and create guest users for all of my clients.

Am I missing sometheng, or is there a more stright-forward means by which to share reports?  The clients I am trying to share with have Power BI Pro, as do I.

Thanks so much!

  • Hey,

not sure what exactly you mean by guest users, but I assume you are referencing to users outside of your tenant.

Access to Power BI content requires users (internal and external) being part of your Azure Active Directory. For this reason, no, there is no more straightforward solution. I assume you are aware of this article: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/enterprise/service-admin-azure-ad-b2b?WT.c_id=DP-MVP-5003068

Hopefully, this helps to tackle your challenge.

    Regards,

    Tom

Thank you, Tom.  Looks like Microsoft Admin calls it guest users and Azure refers to a tenant.  This is also my first experience with Azure.  Leave it to Microsoft to over-complicate the structure their platforms and to keep changing their terminology.  Thanks for pointing to the article.  I understand better now.
