Get overview over Dataset usage across entire tenant

Hi community,

when we started with Power BI we enabled business users to create their own datasets.
No we want to start to get more governance on this and identify which datasets and reports are frequently used across the entire tenant. In the end it would be great to even understand which source tables are included the most in the frequently used datasets, so we can replace them with our own certified datasets.

Is there a tenant wide report for usage metrics that tells me this kind of information?

Thanks,

Thorsten

Hi @Tustle

You can analyze the view of reports by usage metrics. If you want to monitor reports usage in classic workspaces, you can refer Monitor usage metrics in classic workspaces. If you want to monitor reports usage in new workspaces, you can refer Monitor usage metrics in the new workspace experience(preview).

In addition, you can view Audit logs with a global admin account or view-only roles in Microsoft 365 Admin Center where tenant activities including usage of reports and datasets are recorded and logs are exported to analyze further. For more details about tracking user activities and search the audit log, you can refer Track user activities in Power BI and Search the audit log in the compliance.

Yes, the O364 tenant audit reports give you that information. Ask your tenant admin for extracts on the Power BI activities that you are interested in (like "View Report" etc.)
