Gateways/Refresh
Just wondering if my assumption here is correct... Running a refresh via a gateway in the PowerBI Service, to on prem/cloud sources, mitigates or reduces trying to refresh a fat RAM heavy datase...

That is correct when refreshing in the PBI Service the RAM is used in the PBI Service to refresh the data.
