Refresh failure: Cloud data source refresh is not allowed in gateway setting
Hello,
I am experiencing an issue with automatic refresh in Power BI Service.
Cloud data source used: Google Analytics (OAuth 2.0)
Error message received during scheduled refresh:
{"error":{"code":"Premium_ASWL_Error","pbi.error":{"code":"Premium_ASWL_Error","parameters":{},"details":[{"code":"Premium_ASWL_Error_Details_Label","detail":{"type":1,"value":"Cloud data source refresh is not allowed in gateway setting."}}],"exceptionCulprit":1}}}
Additional Info:
Refresh works manually from Power BI Desktop
In the gateway settings, Google Analytics appears as “Cannot be added to gateway”
In cloud connections, it is mapped via Personal Cloud Connection, and appears Online
I already tried re-entering credentials, checking privacy levels, and refreshing credentials
The same Google Analytics connection is used in another dataset and refreshes without issues
What else could be causing this? Appreciate any help or suggestions.
Thank you in advance!
Hello!
Thank you for your help, d_m_LNK and GilbertQ.
The issue was caused by combining cloud data sources (Google Analytics and Meta Ads) using Append in Power Query. This triggered a refresh failure in the Power BI Service with the error: "Cloud data source refresh is not allowed in gateway setting."
Solution:In Gateway settings, I enabled:
"Allow user's cloud data sources to refresh through this gateway cluster"Set Privacy Level = Organizational for both data sources:
In Power BI Desktop
And in the Service under Gateway > Data source settings
Re-published the report.
Now the scheduled refresh works fine.
Hope this helps someone else!

Just curious if when you re-entered credentials that you created a new credential set to use? This happens sometimes for us where you need to create a saved credential set and give it a name rather than using the "personal gateway connection". All the settings are the same but this type of credential usually is more consistant.
