Gateway source doesn't update following refresh from desktop

Hi,

I have a report with a sql server datasource where the database has just been migrated to a new server. I have updated it in desktop and it works fine, however on uploading to the service, it still shows the old gateway connection.

Upon downloading the report from the service though, it shows the updated server under data source settings.

Could anyone explain why the service is still showing the old gateway connection and not the new one ?

thanks

Scott

hi @PaisleyPrince
you need to add a new  sql erver data source to the gateway nd enter the same values - Server, databasse , authentication, and credentials. and map your dataset to this new gateway entry and refresh the dataset.   becausse  powerbi service is caching the gatewaay mapping and it doesn't update automatically. downloading the newpbix shows the new server because  powerbi ddesktop reads your actual model, not the gateway mapping.

Hi @PaisleyPrince,

The issue happened because the original dataset in the Power BI Service was still holding on to an old, cached gateway connection, even though the PBIX had been updated. Some datasets refresh this connection automatically, but this one didn’t. When you saved the file as a new version (v2) and uploaded it, Power BI treated it as a brand new dataset, forcing it to recheck the data source and correctly match it to the new gateway.

Thanks & Regards,

Prasanna Kumar

Hi,

I already have a new gateway for the new source and some other reports i've republished have picked this up when the report has been updated in the Service. However one hasn't. I've saved it as a v2 and uploaded to the Service and it picks up the new gateway. Can you advise what the issue may be ?
