Gateway -> Report
Hi
PowerBI and Data Gateways are very confusing. My IT team have setup a gateway, with a .csv file as source. I have my report (using pasted data) on the PowerBI web app. I've addded everything under 'manage connections and gateways' - but how in the world do I now get that data into the report. Surely this is the point of the date gateway!?

Think of the Gateway as the tunnel between the cloud (Service) and your data (inside your firewall). At a high level, the gateway is just the tunnel that lets you securely pass data. The Data Source that you set up that uses the Gateway is the link between the Service and the data itself.

That's great. I have the data (.csv) out of the firewall and on the cloud (gateway). Can you link me to an article that tells me how to get the cloud data into PowerBI ?
The last article you linked to falls over at the first step because that button 'Get Data' doesn't exist on the web app? I'm sort of reading things like I need to RDP onto the VM that's hosting the data/gateway inside my org, set up all my reports, change the source from local to gateway... Surely that is not the case.

I know that you mention that you have a .csv file "on the cloud". But, the key is WHERE on the cloud is this? Is it SharePoint Online, or OneDrive?
When you go to "Get Data" you select the location (ShaarPoint Folder or Web for the OneDrive location or just text/csv or you could even use file for Onedrive) and then you go from there.
So, where exactly is the file is the key piece so that you can select your connection.
The data (a .csv) exists on a VM on a production network. The .csv is updated daily. The path is c:/xxx.csv or whatever. A Microsoft on-prem data gateway was installed, and it was setup with the filepath pointing to this location.
In PowerBI (Web) I can see this gateway, and it's online. Under 'Connections' I can also see this, I can see the path, and the authentication works (see photo). So everthing is a big green tick. Gateway working. Data connected. Now how do I get the data, into PowerBI? That's the bit that I cannot figure out!
