Filled Map has stopped working today
I've got a visual in the Power BI Service that uses the Filled Map visual. This visual was working yesterday and does not work today. I've downloaded the PBIX file out of the service and it works correctly in Power BI Desktop:

Hi All,
As known, Power BI Map visual uses Bing map. There's something changed in the PBI and Bing map integration. See Bing maps improvements.
Here's some suggestion
- Set DataCategory for the geo column in the Modeling phase
- Use a location hierarchy that includes Country to scope the geocoding query, and drill using “hierarchy” drill icon (pitchfork)
So please download the latest Power BI desktop and follow above two suggestions to tweak map visuals in your report, then re-publish.

I am getting exactly the same issue, even if I changed mine to a Map it is not rendering the bubbles.
I'm getting a similar issue. Looks like the only map which is currently rendering correctly is the ArcGIS visual.

At the moment I post, I can't reproduce that issue as your descripbed? Could you just re-try? If the issue persists, what happens when you re-publish the pbix file?
Just tried to re-post my report again which contains the basic map visual and received the same issue. Displays fine in Power BI Desktop, but renders a blank map when published to the Power BI Service. I am using this version of the Desktop software (2.46.4732.581 64-bit (May, 2017)). Note: the other visuals in the report display the data correctly. Its just the map visual. We need this corrected ASAP. Thanks.
I have the same experience with the standard map. Showing only 2 dozen dots/bubbles out of >500. Only on PowerBI.com, desktop functions as expected.

Thanks all for your reporting. Anyhow I'm not reproducing this issue on my side. For further diagnose, could any one of you help capture the network traffic by fiddler when loading your report and upload the trace file.
Try to map a location by City, State. Until last week I was able to map the Location field in the visual by using a combination of City, State (Denver, CO). This worked when i originally published the report back in the Fall of 2016 and continued to successfully render until a change must have occurred on the Power BI Service over the last 10 days.
I'm in the same boat. desktop works fine.
and service is a no go.
Interestingly, ArcGis fails to load on my desktop but, works on the service.
June update for Power BI has just come through and the mapping issue between desktop and service has now been rectified. The solution was to create a location heirachy starting with country as level 1 and then Postcode as level 2.
However, the filled map visualistion which used to work on desktop has now stopped functioning and returns the following error when drilling down to the poctcode level. Whish is strange as the structure works fine in bubble maps.

noticed this too. January update has broken a lot of things. Specifically we are also having issues filtering on nulls in the data. The previous release of the Desktop app works fine with the data, but the latest one does not. It also impacts powerbi Service reports too. Quite disappointing.
Filled maps has stopped working for me as well.
Even tried to follow the Microsoft example here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/power-bi-visualization-filled-maps-choropleths to test but this even fails and doesn't fill.
Currently running Version: 2.55.5010.521 64-bit (February 2018) of Power BI Desktop.
