Hi @maxtexg  - Your organization might have restricted the use of free trials or Microsoft Fabric.

Action:

  • Contact your IT administrator to confirm if trials are allowed for your account.
  • Ensure your Azure Active Directory (AAD) account has permissions to access Fabric features.

or

A valid Power BI license is often required to activate the Microsoft Fabric trial.

  • Action:
    • Go to the Power BI Service (https://app.powerbi.com).
    • Check if you have at least a Power BI Pro license. If not, request one or upgrade.Verify that your account is in a supported region for Fabric trials. If you belong to a guest tenant, switch to your home tenant to activate the trial. You can do this in the top-right corner of the Power BI Service.

I hope this helps.

@rajendraongole1 - My company has a Power BI Pro license, but due to organizational restrictions, other departments are not allowed to use Fabric.

I already have my .onmicrosoft dot com account set up, but do I need to purchase a Power BI Pro subscription on a monthly basis, as you mentioned? Also, I tried switching the tenant, but the option is grayed out.

Could you advise on the best way to resolve this so I can start using Fabric capacity? Currently, I’m receiving the following error message:

Hi @LearnFabric  - Since your company has a Power BI Pro license but restricts Microsoft Fabric, and you're unable to access Fabric trial capacity can you cross check with your Microsoft 365 or Power BI Admin to confirm if Fabric is blocked in your company’s Azure portal. If blocked, you might need explicit approval to enable Fabric services. or another option like , If self-service purchasing is disabled, ask IT to allow you to enable it. You can check this in Microsoft 365 Admin Center.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your quick response. Apologies for not providing the full context earlier.

I'm using this account on my personal laptop, not my company laptop, to learn and gain experience with Fabric quickly. However, I’m encountering this issue while trying to install it.

Do I need to purchase a Power BI Pro license to access Fabric?

@LearnFabric  - Fabric requires a business or school account (Microsoft Entra ID).You cannot access Fabric with a free personal Microsoft account. You need a Microsoft Fabric Trial or an F SKU subscription in Azure.

if you only need to explore Fabric in your personal workspace, a free trial should work. However, Fabric features require capacity (e.g., F64, F128), which isn’t included in a standard Power BI Pro license.

Hope this helps.

@rajendraongole1 - thanks for your reply, i was trying to follow this youtube vi https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RHV7jZqc_tEeo steps, he has used the .onmicrosoft dot com account. i'm not sure if their is a bug or something i'm missing, i can see you have given some great solution, but i need to get this around

You're welcome! The YouTube video you followed is a great start, but let's try to pinpoint what's going wrong.

Since you are on a 60-day Power BI Pro trial, double-check these:

License Assignment:

Go to Microsoft 365 Admin Center → Active Users. admin.microsoft.com
Ensure your .onmicrosoft.com account has a Power BI Pro license assigned.
Fabric Enablement in Power BI Admin Portal:

Go to Power BI Service → Settings → Admin Portal → Tenant Settings.
Verify that Microsoft Fabric is enabled for your entire organization.
Ensure that the "Create Microsoft Fabric Trial Capacity" setting is on.

I hope this information helps.

I have created . onmicrosoft account for testinng trial period i have power bi pro as per power bi 60 days free trial. i also checked in settinng regarding the fabric trial are avalible for all user is "enabled" still i am getting this error.

Hi @maxtexg  ,

It is possible that your tenant has run out of Fabric Trials. Please check with your Fabric Admin to see how many trial capacities have been provisioned.

If that is the case you can request other trial capacity users to share their trial capacity workspace with you
