Export data from custom Visuals is not working

I have added a functionality using 'downloadService.exportVisualsContent' * I am Able to export data using app.powerbiservice.com and PowerBi Desktop * But Unable to download from Embeded API sid...

thanks for your response, all the above mentioned points were checked and everything is as mentioned. Still popup to download the file is not appeared.

    Thank you for reviewing those points.  Since the download is still not working, could you provide some details about your setup? This information will help us identify the issue.

    1. Which browser and version are you using?

    2. Is the report embedded in a custom web app, or in a platform like Teams?

    3. Are there any errors or warnings in the browser console when you try to export?

     

    Sometimes, the problem relates to how the iframe is hosted or how the download is triggered, especially in environments that restrict pop ups or downloads.

      Thanks for your response.

      Here are the browser details we’re using:

      • Chrome: Version 141.0.7390.123 (Official Build) (64-bit)
      • Microsoft Edge: Version 141.0.3537.99 (Official Build) (64-bit)

      We’re working with custom visuals in Power BI accessed via Embedded Service Principal, and attempting to export data based on selected points on a map as a .csv file using:
      powerbi.extensibility.IDownloadService → exportVisualsContent

      This functionality works perfectly in:

      • Power BI Service (app.powerbi.com)
      • Power BI Desktop

      However, it does not work in the embedded scenario.
      We’ve verified the following:

      • No errors or warnings appear in the browser console.
      • Download and popup blockers have been disabled.
      • Permissions and API configurations have been reviewed and adjusted.

      Despite these efforts, we haven’t had any success with the export in embedded mode.

      Please let us know if there are any additional steps or configurations we might be missing.

        Hi satwik_gorlaman ,

        Thanks a lot for sharing those details. Since the export works fine in Power BI Service and Desktop but not in the Embedded setup using a Service Principal, it looks like the issue is specific to how downloads are handled in that environment.

        A few things you can double check.

        1. Make sure it has both Export data and Download report permissions in the workspace.

        2. Some browsers silently block file downloads from iframes on a different domain. If possible, try hosting the embed on the same domain.

        3. Currently, download Service.exportVisualContent  isn’t clearly documented as supported in Embedded scenarios with Service Principals. You could test the same setup using user delegated authentication to confirm if it works there.
