Do we required data gateway to refresh data

Hi Experts,

As I am using Azure SQL analytics as a data source for my reports I doubt we require data gateways to refresh data for the azure synapse database, since it's a cloud-based database.

For data bricks source point also do we require the gateway to refresh data?

Regards,

H

Hi @Heena_9980400 ,

According to the official document, Gateway is not required for Azure SQL Database.

While setting up scheduled refresh for Azure SQL database, if you get an error with error code 400 when editing the credentials, try the following to set up the appropriate firewall rule:

  1. Sign in to the Azure portal.

  2. Go to the Azure SQL database for which you're configuring refresh.

  3. At the top of the Overview blade, select Set server firewall.

  4. On the Firewall settings blade, make sure that Allow Azure services and resources to access this server is set to Yes.

Hey, Assuming the Azure SQL database/ synapse pool is not moved within a Vnet then to refresh powerbi you wont need a gateway as both are cloud resources on public net.

In case if the synapse is within a vnet, you would have to create a server within that vent and install and leverage the gateway
