Deployment Pipelines

Hi.

Around two month back, we have deployed a new semantic data model. We have three environments(Dev, test and Prod). So we have created a deployment pipeline and deployed to each environment usinf deployment pipelines.

Recently, We have made multiple changes in the model like configuring incremental refresh on fact tables and also creating a seperate folder for measures and doing some operations like merge queries etc.
So I basically moved this model to dev workspace. Now when i am trying to deploy from Dev to testing using deployment pipelines in service, I was receiving this message
"At least one table or column in the source semantic model was modified in a way that prevents it from being deployed into an existing semantic model".
How can we address this ?

Hi @Rajesh_Yarlagad,

Thank you for your inquiry through the Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.

Based on my understanding of the error message, it typically indicates schema-breaking changes that the Deployment Pipeline cannot reconcile with the existing semantic model in the target workspace. The root cause may be attributed to several recent changes, such as configuring incremental refresh, creating folders for measures, performing merge or transformation operations in Power Query, or renaming/removing columns or tables. Such changes alter the schema or metadata, which the pipeline detects as incompatible with the deployed version.

Please follow the workaround approach outlined below, which may help to resolve the issue:

  1. Backup Your Existing Model in the Test Workspace.Kindly rename or export the semantic model to avoid any potential data loss.
  2. Delete the Existing Semantic Model (Test). This action will clear any conflicting metadata or partitions, allowing for a clean deployment.
  3. Re-deploy from Dev to Test.Navigate to Deployment Pipelines and proceed to deploy from Dev to Test.
