Hi guys,
My report consists of multiple data sources & I'm not able to change the parameters in deployment pipeline. I was able to change for the report that has one data source but it's not working when the report consists of multiple data sources.
Please help me out with this.
Thanks in advance.
Hi @srana ,
Have you reveiwed the following link's Considerations and limitations? Dynamic M query parameters in Power BI Desktop (preview) - Power BI | Microsoft Docs Do any of those apply to you? Also, are you sure that you have permissions to all of the data sources?
When you state that you can change one data source's parameters do you mean that you have tested EACH data source separately and you can do each one individually - but you can't just do it when those same data sources are together?
For the service and the rules have you considered these limitations? Get started using deployment pipelines, the Power BI Application lifecycle management (ALM) tool - P... Particularly, are you an owner or is the datasource(s) in the CDM or other limits?

Hi @collinq ,
Thanks for the solution it does make sense.
After reading your solution I tried using it with one data source but this time in the parameter rule it is not giving me the option for changing the database name / not showing me the database name that I've used ; it is only showing me the server name.
Please suggest me a solution for this.
Hi @srana ,
That sounds very much like a permissions issue to me. If you can see the server, but not the database that indicates to me that the permissions are not set for you to see from that database. That would be worth a call to the database administrator to determine if you (or the userid that is being used) has permissions.

Hi ,
I do have the required permissions on all the database as I can connect to it in Power BI Desktop and service as well.
Only in case of deployment pipelines, it's not allowing to change the parameter for certain sources.
Hi @srana ,
According to this article here:
you have to have the deployment set up in such a way that the parameters/rules can be applied - specifically as per this paragraph:
As you can't edit datasets data sources in Power BI service, we recommend using parameters to store connection details such as instance names and database names, instead of using a static connection string. This allows you to manage the connections through the Power BI service web portal, or using APIs, at a later stage.
In deployment pipelines, you can configure parameter rules to set specific values for the development, test, and production stages.
If you don’t use parameters for your connection string, you can define data source rules to specify a connection string for a given dataset. However, in deployment pipelines, this isn't supported for all data sources. To verify that you can configure rules for your data source, see deployment rules limitations.
Parameters have additional uses, such as making changes to queries, filters, and the text displayed in the report.

Hi,
I have 10 parameters used in my report but here it allows me to change only for 4 parameters.
We did open tickets for the issues with deployment pipeline showing differences when parameter values are changed. Ultimately we were asked to remove them to resolve the issues.
You should update directly parameters from Dataset settings. I had multiple issues in using configuration rules inside Deployment Pipeline.
Hi @srana
Not sure,
but it's not working when the report consists of multiple data sources.
could you share it's screenshot after removing sensitive information?
