Dataset size not updated when republishing report
Hi guys,
I faced an issue that when I switch sources to Direct Query and republish the report to the workspace to replace the one using Import, which I have done before, the dataset size still has big storage, which is more than 90 MB (this size is of the old report).
However, I did a test to rename the report and publish it, and it is just only 2 MB, the same as I checked in the file properties on my desktop. So, I wonder somehow my report can't replace the size of the dataset in the workspace.
Does anyone know the reason?
I would appreciate it!
Hi SamVH12 ,
When you use DirectQuery, Power BI doesn’t actually store the data—it just connects to the source and pulls what it needs on the fly. But if there’s an old dataset still sitting in the workspace from when the report was using Import mode, that could explain the size mismatch.
Now, when you rename and republish the report, Power BI sees it as a fresh upload and creates a new dataset that matches the current setup, which is why the size looks right in that version.
Just double-check that your dataset in the workspace is actually running in DirectQuery mode so everything lines up properly
can you refer below doc : https://spgeeks.devoworx.com/switch-import-to-directquery-mode-powerbi/
Hope this helps !
