Dataset consolidation
Hi guys,
in the past, because of the old workspaces, we could not share datasets and had to have them in multiple workspaces at once.
At the beginning of the week we upgraded our workspaces to the newer version especially because of this feature. Heving done so I want to consolidate alls the datasets so there are no duplicates. This seems to be problematic.
I found that for DirectQuery or Import Datasets with only reports attached to them that can be done by renaming the report to differ from the name of the dataset, downloading the report (without the dataset being attached, that's why the renaming is necessary) adjusting the connection to the dataset, uploading the report and renaming it again.
As soon as the dataset is used in Dashboards, that is no longer viable as I cannot change the source of dashboard tiles.
Also for reports using SSAS as a datasource, I cannot "re-link" them to anotherdataset as this option is never provided.
Do you guys have any idea how I can consolidate?
Best
Lukas

Hi LukasM ,
You can refer to the article to learn how to upgrade the classic workspace to new workspace.
After upgrading a workspace that had an installed content pack, you may see additional dashboards in the workspace which were not visible before the upgrade. This occurs in some cases where a content pack has not been updated recently. You can safely remove these dashboards.
There are also some limitations for the workspace upgrading , see more: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/designer/service-upgrade-workspaces#upgrade-considerations-and-limitations .

Hey Amy,
unfortunately this does not solve the problem at hand. I could upgrade the workspaces just fine. It's about consolidating the datasources that I now have as duplicates in different workspaces.

Hi LukasM2 ,
Your demand is a good idea, while it is not supported to implement in Power BI currently. You can post your new idea in Idea Forum , to improve the Power BI.
It is a place for customers provide feedback about Microsoft Office products . What’s more, if a feedback is high voted there by other customers, it will be promising that Microsoft Product Team will take it into consideration when designing the next version in the future.
