Data for dashboards - push or pull

I am reading that it is possible to push data on-prem data into Power BI reports or dashboards, also it is possible to get the same data by pulling it via a gateway using application's Web APIs. So, which way is more prefferable in terms of overcoming security challange such generating anf refreshing tokens?

Thanks

Hi @Markzolotoy ,

Check the references below:

Did I answer your question? Mark my post as a solution!

@v-kelly-msft While these articles are helpful they do not answer my question, at least I dont see how. And my question is to regards of a token authentication that requires for using application APIs. Not the Azure/PowerBI APIs but the APIs that are currently used in on-prem application. I am trying to understand what the pros and cons of implementing pull or push are in regards of Web API token authentication and a token refresh.

Hello @Markzolotoy

Power BI Gateway would be a better solution in terms of security if you want to push your on-premise Data to Power BI dashboard.

Not sure you understand what I am asking. It won't work either way without a gateway.
