Dashboard Deployment without affecting the dataset

Hi,

How to deploy a power bi report without affecting the dataset? I am currently managing dataset changes using ALM toolkit. what will happen if i publish the report using power bi desktop with enhancements only on visuals? is my incremental reload will be affected?

Thank you.

Yes I'm afraid so.

if you just want to change visuals you need to split out a thin report:

How is the report connected to the dataset in the service?

If it's a thin report (just visuals using data sat in the service) then it's all fine.

If though you're overwriting the actual dataset it would start the incremental refresh again.

The report is using the default dataset that is generated when it is published. It is currently configured with incremental refresh with 4 years data and running fine. So it mean when I republish the pbix file with updated visual the loaded data on the service will reload?

Thank you.
