Connecting to Semantic Model and Data View

Hello all,

I have following case. We have a semantic model and different stakeholders which should be able to create reports based on the semnatic model. The semnatic model contains senstiive data and hence it's absolutely required that stakeholders should not be able to download the data. The idea is that the users connect to the semantic model from Power BI Desktop and create their reports and upload them to the portal. Unfortunately, once they are connected to the semantic model, they have the Model View but not the Table View anymore. Sometimes stakeholders don't know what is in each table and need a quick overview what is in each table without having to drag and drop the fields into a visual. Is there a way to enable user to have also a Table View ?

I've the same problem as yours. I found the solution : Use the function DAX in Power BI

1. create new table

2. Table = CALCULATETABLE('your semantic model')

Then u can display or modify data in the new table.

Thanks but this has to be done for all tables , correct ?

Yes i think, in my situation, i've only one table to import.

Hello @Alexussaurus,

Hello @Alexussaurus ,

unfortunatelly no, when connecting to semantic model it won't show the data view.

what you might do is create a table visual for them to show the data that they might need.

Hi @Idrissshatila ,

we have a lot of tables hence it's not feasible but thanks for letting know. Unfortunately, Power BI even doesn't have the possibility to drag and drop fall fields from a table into a visual so you have to select each field separately....

@Alexussaurus ,

I see, but in the connecting to semantic model, they won't be able to see the data view, but they can see the table name and column names and measures on the right side of the report pane.
