Connect to Azure SQL database using virtual private endpoint with dataflow

Hi,

I am trying to connect to an SQL database in Azure Synapse using a virtual private endpoint. The virtual private endpoint has been setup as well as the connector and both are online. Previously, I was able to see the tables via a dataflow using this connector. However, when I try this now, I'm unable to see or select the connector or data gateway in the dataflow creation pane. Does anyone know a solution to this problem?

Thanks in advance!

Hi @yourih - Ensure that your Data Gateway is properly configured for private endpoints, as it plays a critical role in securely routing your queries from Power BI to your Azure SQL Database. Even though you're using a private endpoint, the on-premises gateway may still be required, especially if you're using specific network configurations.

  • Make sure the gateway is installed on a machine that has network access to the private endpoint.
  • Check if the gateway is listed under "Manage gateways" in the Power BI service. If not, you might need to reinstall or reconfigure the gateway.

Gateway

  • Go to the Power BI Service and navigate to Settings > Manage gateways.>>Ensure that the gateway is listed there and properly configured for your data source.

  • Verify that the firewall settings on the Azure SQL Database are correctly configured to allow traffic from the virtual network associated with your private endpoint.
  • Double-check if the virtual network and subnet have the necessary route tables and network security group (NSG) configurations to allow Power BI traffic.
