Best Gateway Option for Power BI with Pro Licenses

Hi everyone
We’re a small organization using Power BI to create reports, and we're about to start publishing them. Our goal is to share the reports in a safe and secure manner, and after some research, I found that the VNet (Virtual Network) option seems to be the best solution.

However, I also discovered that VNet doesn't work with Power BI Pro licenses, and since all of our employees have Pro licenses, we’re looking for the most effective and economical way to set up a secure gateway.

Could anyone share their recommendations for the best gateway option that would suit our setup, considering the licensing constraints?

Thanks in advance!

We use an on-prem gateway. All our data sources are on-prem as well due to the nature of our organization. We have 1200 members with about 40 pro licenses and "free" for the rest for viewing purposes. Our gateway server is behind a VPN firewall so we had to do additional configuration to allow traffic to and from service. The gateway uses encryption anyway so data transfer is secure. It's more about securing your own data sources.

If you're talking about making some of your reports available to people outside your organization (be it to view or collaborate), that's a different ball game. Depending on your security requirements, you may have to create authentication for "outsiders" in your Active Directory whether local or cloud.

If all of your employees have pro licenses what is your licensing constraint?

As the other poster suggested the on-prem gateway is the standard for ingesting your on-prem data sources.  As far as distribution of reports the best method there is to use a Power BI application to house all of your reports and security groups to manage access.  If everyone has a pro account sharing won’t be an issue.
