Azure Maps reference layer transparency behaves differently after publishing to Power BI Service
- 6 months ago
Hello danielpmaximo27 & powerbiuser__34,
Thank you both for sharing your findings and for the detailed testing the observations around the initial render vs post-interaction behavior in Power BI Service are very helpful.
Please consider raising a Microsoft support ticket for further investigation. You can create a Microsoft support ticket using the link below: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/support/create-support-ticketBest regards,

Hi,
Yes, I ended up opening a support ticket directly with Microsoft about this.
They were able to reproduce the issue on their side and confirmed that it is a bug on their side. According to the Engineering team, this happens because the reference layer features (polygons, lines, points, etc.) are not bound to any semantic model data until the visual is interacted with. On the initial render, no geopoint is selected, so the reference layer is not properly applied. After a click, the visual refreshes and the transparency behaves as expected.
They mentioned that the team is working on a fix.
So it’s a known issue now. Hopefully we’ll see a fix in an upcoming update.
Hello danielpmaximo27,
Thank you very much for the update and for sharing the outcome of the Microsoft support ticket.
This is very helpful information. It confirms that the behavior is a known service-side bug. Thank you again for taking the time to investigate this thoroughly and for sharing the findings with the community. this will definitely help others who encounter the same behavior.
