Dear Community,
I want to share an experience I made recently as Iam not sure if it a defect and already known or not.
In PBI Service I want to auto-create a report based on a semantic model. By clicking the button shown in the screenshot, only a blank report page is generated.
BUT, if I go the way directly from the semantic model view as seen below, it actually works and I get my auto-generated report.
Would appreciate if somebody experience the same or knows if this is a known defect.
Best regards!

Thank you.
Hi. I have just tried that and it's working for me. I have clicked at the three dots and then auto-create report. It worked. Make sure you haven't clicked at "Create report" that is really close to that button. If you are in a notebook/laptop the UI can be really cramped.
I hope that helps,
Happy to help!
@ibarrau interesting thought, but no. I clicked on this button, also tried the ones above and below to exclude that it is a visual glitch. But still get empty report. Also the same behaviour with at least one of my team mates.
Hi @Mauro89,
Thank you for confirming and testing all available options, which helps eliminate the possibility of a visual glitch or accidental misclick. Since both you and a teammate consistently see a blank report after clicking the correct "Auto-create report" button, it appears the issue is not just local.
This could be related to your browser, workspace setup, or the semantic model itself. You might want to try clearing your browser cache, using an incognito window, switching to a different browser or device, and checking your permissions for the semantic model.
Also, make sure the model includes the necessary metadata, as reports may not generate if the model is too minimal. The workspace type (Premium or non-Premium) and regional rollout differences could also be factors. Since accessing the report directly from the semantic model view works, that can serve as a temporary workaround.
Thank you.
I checked your hints, please see belows results:
- clearing your browser cache
--> same issue still exists
- using an incognito windows
--> same issue still exists
- switching to a different browser or device
--> checked with google chrome, same issue still exists
- checking your permissions for the semantic model.
--> Iam the model owner and have WS admin rights which should be enough
- model includes the necessary metadata
--> I try to perform the same operation with the semantic model from the Dashboard in a Day Workshop, same issue still exists.
- The workspace type (Premium or non-Premium)
--> WS is backed with a capacity
Conclusion, issue still exists, but workaround is possible. @v-sgandrathi Where can I state this topic as a defect?
Best regards!

Hi,
based on the support feedback and that the issue is basically a defect, I create a new idea for this defect.

Hi @Mauro89,
Thank you for taking the time to create and share this idea with the community. We appreciate your proactive approach in helping improve the product experience, I’ve upvoted it to help bring more visibility.
Thank you.
Hello @v-sgandrathi,
I want to update on that topic with an interesting finding which the colleagues of the support had with me. The issue why this is not working is that if a semantic model is within a folder in a workspace, then it does not work. If the semantic model is on the "root" of the workspace, meaning in no folder, it actually works.
Shout out to @v-sreyadutta for figuring this out!!!
Hope this get fixed in the next time to have consistent function behaviour for users.
Best regards!
Hi @Mauro89,
Thank you for providing this update and sharing the detailed findings from your support session.
Your observation regarding the semantic model being inside a folder clarifies the cause of the inconsistent behavior. We will ensure this information is communicated to the product team for their review and consideration in future enhancements.
We appreciate your efforts in closing the loop and supporting others who may encounter a similar situation.
Thank you and Continue using Microsoft Fabric Community Forum.
I will check your ideas and let you know if any of them work. For now the workaround can be used.
