App with subcategories?
I have an App with about 30 dashboards included that internal managers at my company have access to for performance tracking purposes. These dashboards are individual client campaigns that need to be monitored. Currently, all dashboards, whether a campaign has ended or is currently running, are in one App. With this amount of dashboards to view it gets a bit cumbersome navigating amongs them all.
I'm looking to setup a "subcategory" within the app where the dashboards are grouped by "Completed" and "Running" campaigns. Basically like a folder system that I can select which dashboards should go to the "Completed' or "Running" folder.
Is this possible in any manner that doesn't include creating a separate workspace and separate app?
In Power BI, organizing dashboards within an App into subcategories such as "Completed" and "Running" campaigns is not directly supported. However, you can achieve similar functionality through the following approaches:
1. Using Sections in App Navigation
Power BI allows you to create sections in the App navigation pane. You can create sections for "Completed" and "Running" campaigns and place relevant dashboards under each section.
Steps:
- Open the App in Power BI Service.
- Go to Navigation: Click on the pencil icon to edit the App navigation.
- Add Sections: Click on "Add section" and create sections named "Completed" and "Running."
- Organize Dashboards: Drag and drop the relevant dashboards under each section.
2. Using Report and Dashboard Naming Conventions
Use a naming convention to categorize your reports and dashboards. For example, prefix the names with "Completed_" or "Running_". This helps in visually grouping them together.
3. Using Bookmarks and Buttons
You can create a report with buttons and bookmarks to navigate between different sets of reports representing "Completed" and "Running" campaigns. This method requires some setup and design within Power BI Desktop.
Steps:
- Create a Navigation Report:
- Create a new report in Power BI Desktop.
- Add buttons for "Completed" and "Running" campaigns.
- Use bookmarks to navigate to different report pages or linked reports/dashboards.
- Publish the Navigation Report:
- Publish this navigation report to your workspace.
- Add to App:
- Add the navigation report to your App.
- Use the navigation report as the entry point for users to access the grouped dashboards.
4. Using Paginated Reports
If you are using Power BI Premium, paginated reports can help organize and provide detailed navigation options, but this requires more advanced setup and design.
Summary
The most straightforward way within the current Power BI capabilities is to use the sections in App navigation or naming conventions to visually group your dashboards. Creating a navigation report with buttons and bookmarks offers more flexibility and customization, though it requires more setup.
Choose the approach that best fits your requirements and technical expertise. If you're looking for ease of setup, using sections in App navigation is likely the best starting point.

yes as Shravan133 you should use sections, you can also benefit from audience in different scenarios
