Analyze in Excel option disabled (greyed out) from other tenant

Hi there,

I deployed a report on Tenant A.  I am able to use the "Analyze in Excel" feature with User1@TenantA as all required options are enabled.

I gave access the the workspace hosting the report and shared the report to User2@Tenant B (external user).

But when accessing the report with this user the "Analyze in Excel" option is disabled.

Any clue?

Many thanks

Hi @Anonymous ,

It is by design. External user cannot use analyze in excel to connect to the dataset. For more details, please refer to

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/whitepaper-azure-b2b-power-bi#enabling-external-users-to-edit-and-manage-content-within-power-bi

/*  Guest users cannot use Analyze in Excel*/

Hi,

"Analyze to excel for external users" looks to be an limitation. There is nothing such mentioned in the Microsoft document explaining this feature but i found an community post which indicates the same.

The best way would be to create a ticket for Power BI support and get it confirmed from them as that will be authentic.

Community Post:

https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Service/Can-users-who-you-share-with-analyze-in-excel-Error-Forbidd...

Microsoft Doc on "Analyze IN excel" which does not have this limitation specifically called out:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/service-analyze-in-excel

https://powerbi.microsoft.com/support/

Thank you guys!

I looked all over the place to find this info.

Had to go to Azure B2B to get it... Maybe add this limitation to the "Analyze in Excel" section (https://docs.microsoft.com/fr-fr/power-bi/service-analyze-in-excel)

Thanks again!!

EDIT: Ah yeah.. and when hovering over the "Analyze in Excel" button there was a tooltip mentionning "The user disabled the feature for this application..." which is seriously misleading
