Allow users to manually refresh a specific dataset (no gateway)

Hi,

I'm looking for a way to allow some staff to refresh the dataset of a report manually whenever needed. I cannot grant them Admin access, I tried with Member and Contribute but they cannot see the dataset hence run the refresh. It is a Premium workspace with multiple reports and datasets in it, ideally I would like to grant them "refresh rights" to only 1 of these reports/datasets. Any idea?

Thanks,

Pietro

Hi. It is weird that they can't refresh. I'm curious if this is because there is not gateway. A Member should be able to run a dataset refresh because they have manage dataset permission.

Anyway. Let's talk about an approach. You can try building a small app with powershell or whatever coding language that triggers a Power Bi dataset Refresh.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/rest/api/power-bi/datasets/refreshdataset

The users can just double click on an app authenticating with service principal and running the refresh for the dataset.

Hope that helps,

Thanks @ibarrau ! I'm opting for a button that triggers a Power Automate Flow calling the PowerBI refresh API 👍
