on premise data gateway(windows server 2008 R2)
Good day
Will the latest version of on premise data gateway still work on windows server 2008 R2?
If not, is the only solution to upgrade the server to windows server 2012 R2 and later?
Thank you in advance.
Kind regards.
Hi Anonymous ,
the minimum requirements in the documentations are clear.
- .NET Framework 4.6 (Gateway release August 2019 and earlier)
- .NET Framework 4.7.2 (Gateway release September 2019 and later)
- A 64-bit version of Windows 8 or a 64-bit version of Windows Server 2012 R2
But I would test it by yourself to see if its work or not. Worst case can only be that you must update :D.
Best,
Kathrin

Hello Anonymous ,
If you use Power BI Report Server you don't need a gateway installation its only for cloud to push the data into the cloud. On premises you have your data in your infrastructure environment :).

Hi @KDO
I am currently using on premise data gateway for Power Bi to push data into the cloud(Therefore, I am using the Power Bi service and not the Power Bi report server) . I would like to know if the lastest version for on premise data gateway for Power Bi will work for Windows server 2008 R2, since the new minimum requirement for the application has changed to exclude Windows server 2008 R2?
Please see link for reference: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/data-integration/gateway/service-gateway-install
If it wont work on Windows server 2008 R2, is my only alternative to upgrade my server to a supported operating system(windows server 2012 or later) ?
Much appreciated
Thank you.
