hello ..

I have a PBI report server may 2020 and I want to upgrade it to may 2021,,

in my old server I have a lot of important dashboards and projects + a lot of users...

when I upgrade will all of that will be eraesed,,,,

and what backups should I have to restore and get i dentical image of my old report server including projects and users?

  • It would not get erased, Though its recommended that you take backup of RpeortServer Database to restore anything. Also take backups of your Report Server config files to restore in case of any failures.

  • Hi Anonymous !

You will need to take backup of PBI Report Server DB, take backup of encryption file which will be used to restore DB.

Also, you can take backup of Report Server config files.

It is recommended to first test the newer release on Dev envronment before making changs to Production environment.

    Regards,

  • Hi, Anonymous

Generally, the normal upgrade will not have problems, but for safety reasons, you still need to do a backup to your report server.

You can check this tutorial to back up report server before you upgrade it:
