Upgrade Power BI Report Server Recovery Plan

Hi,

I plan to upgrade the report server to the latest version by following the steps here: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/upgrade

Is there a documented recovery plan if something goes wrong with the upgrade?

I have not seen one. We use VM's to host our PBRIS instances, so we simply take a VM snapshot and backup the PBIRS databases, then the recovery plan is simply:

  • restore the snapshot and
  • restore the databases.
  •

If you don't have VMs or snapshots of them then your recovery plan would probably involve something like the following

  • un-install PBIRS
  • install the old version (assuming you kept the installer or can still download it)
  • restore the config files
  • restore the encryption key
  • restore the databases
  • re-start PBIRS
