Hi,
Last week while I was trying to install power bi report server on a customer system I was prompted with this error message. Any idea how to resolve this issue? I was trying to install the latest version of power bi report server for your information.
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.
For example:
<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>
When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

I was able to solve the problem by changing the hostnames to a smaller version that doesn't get shortened in "systeminfo".
Edit: before changing the hostname to a shorter version, I was also able to install it successfully by installing a new sql server on the report server hosting machine.

Hi @harunkara ,
Would you please test if you can connect to database server by udl file? Using HOSTNAME\INSTANCE,PORT instead of HOSTNAME for database server.
Please refer to the similar post: https://community.powerbi.com/t5/Report-Server/Unable-to-create-PBI-Report-Server-configuration-data...

Hi, I haven't tried udl yet but telnet works fine on port 1433 to the sql server. I was also able to install SharePoint on the same server to the same sql server.
I have tried hostname\instance,port but that also fails. I am at a loss.
I tried adding an entry to hosts file to maybe fix the problem bu that didn't work either.
And one thing i wanna mention is that the sql db and power bi server are in different VLANS.
udl test is below
@v-deddai1-msft Yes, that screenshot is from the server where i am trying to install Report Server.
Hi @harunkara ,
It's really strange that you can use udl test successfully but can't ping the server name. Did you do the both test on the report server? And why your named instance use the port 1433. It's used for default instance.
Best Regards,
Dedmon Dai
Hi @v-deddai1-msft , When I send install requirements to customer, its listed as 1433 in my farm topology as its the default port. After that its up to the db admin to decide the port. In this case they decided they will go with 1433 as I sent.
Both tests, ping and udl was performed on report server.
Would that cause problem? I installed SharePoint without problem using the same db instance and port.
Hi @harunkara ,
If you're creating the report server database on a database server on a different machine, change the service account for the report server to a credential that is recognized on the database server.
Please refer to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/report-server/install-report-server#creating-a-database-on...

Can you elaborate on recognize? What rights should system admin give to that user on the db server?
Another info that came to light is that,
machine host name for db is OF-DEVQASQL-N but the netbios name is OF-DEVQASQL-N43,
I believe this is the reason for the error, But i have no idea how to fix it, other than requesting new servers with hostname-netbios name matching machines. Which might not be an option here so im open to suggestions.
It's not good that the app crashes like that. But the message that "No such host is known" sounds like the name you've been given for the database server is not correct. That message means that when the configuration tool queried DNS it could not resolve the host name to an IP address.
If you open a command prompt and try to ping the database server does that work? If not this is a networking issue or you've been given the wrong server name.
Hi, When I try to ping, It resolves the IP but it times out. Could that be the reason?
