Power BI Report Server licence with SQL Server & Power BI Service

Hello!

I am new in Power BI World and I apologise for questions bombing that's following!

We have a Power BI Report Server licence with our MS SQL Server Enterprise Edition with Software Assurance (SA). I've noticed that people without a pro licence can upload reports to the report server. As I understand with the  MS SQL Server Enterprise Edition with Software Assurance (SA) it is given also one power bi pro licence or we have to purchase it seperately? If this is the case, what scheme can I use to purchase it (office 365 E5 or something else give me a hint of the available options)? If the software assurance expires what options do I have?

Can I use the Service and the server simultaniously or if I publish something to the service only users with pro licence can access? What about the fitures of dashboard, dataset (as I understand we can create a dataset like a report template and use it to produce several other reports), goals etc...how can I have them?

Thank you in advance

The requirement for a pro license is a legal requirement, but it is not enforced by the server. Because the servers is usually deployed on-prem behind corporate firewalls it cannot rely on being able to contact powerbi.com to enforce the presence of a pro license, but when Microsoft does a periodic licensing audit they would pick up on this.

There are no Power BI Pro licenses included with SQL Server. You can either purchase them with an Office 365 E5 bundle or they can be purchased separately through the Power BI admin portal.

If the SA expires you would either need to stop using the software or you would need to purchase Power BI Premium capacity (which gives you the license to use the same number of cores for an on-prem Power BI Report Server)

You can publish to both simultaniously, but if you do not have a premium capacity reports can only be shared by users with pro licenses.

The ability of a report to access the datasets of another report is only supported on the cloud service. It is not currently available in Report Server. Your only option for shared datasets in an on-prem environment is to use SQL Server Analysis Services.
