Licencing

I have been on a fabric free account where i created dashboards and published the report in my workspace. and shared the link to the users and they did not have to buy licence and they had accessed towards the report. Now as my trial is coming to an end I would like to buy a licence. Its a small team of 30 and nobody has licence. I would like to share the report same way I am sharing now and they would like to see the report without licence. Its a small organisation and wouldnt want to spend a lot of money. what are my best options? Thanks

  • Hi RajeevMychael1

You can purchase the licesne of fabric and your organisation members  have normal organisation email id.  You can share with them with your Fabric licesne. They can consume your Power BI report. But it's only for viewing purpose.

Please let me knwo if it helps you.

    Thank you!!

  • tayloramy agree with you, and I just want to complete, if you are using artefacts in Microsoft Fabric to leverage analysis and data preparation (notebooks, dataflow gen2, pipelines), you can buy a fabric capacity F2 to start and monitor with the capacity app metrics.

If you are only using Power BI for reporting and want to share with others, you will need at least Licence Pro for creators and consumers of reporting.

Hope it can help you !

    Best regards,

    Antoine

    Hi RajeevMychael1

Another potential option would be to use an on prem power bi report server. If your org has SQL Server, then you should be able to install a report server alongside it for no additional licensing.

This is more work to set up and manage, but does not have the per user licensing requirement that Fabric does.

Unfortuneately the only way for users to view reports without a pro license is if the report is in a workspace that is attached to an F64 or greater capcaity, which is rather costly.

  • Thanks AntoineWsuparnababu8tayloramy the main issue is that no one in the organisation knows nothing about bi or even computers tbh. I am creating this for them to view it and as its a small organisation they will be ok to buy my pro licence or premium but not for others or the premium capacity. I am on Fabric trial and it works fine but when it ends is when this will be an issue. All I am doing is Export the data from SAP and save it in a local drive. created a bi dashboard give live connection on to that file so as and when a new file is loaded the dashboard updates by itself and this is the limitations I have.

Thats very helpful and insightful. Thank you so much for your time. I am going to look for the workspace options and see if that works.
