Hello,
I am trying to understand the search box that shows within the published Paginated Report on Power BI Online.
On inital load, the search function works as expected. However, once the report is ran, when using the search function again it won't update the report and it will keep the previously selected parameter instead of using what is within the search.
What can be done to make it so the user doesn't have the refresh the report everytime in order to search for a particular parameter.
Thanks!
I believe you are trying is below
* Selected parameters and ran the report
* After running the report, you changed the parameters (values)
* To get the report updated/refreshed for the changed parameters, now you have to click this button
Note:
FYI, Paginated reports are nothing but classic SSRS reports. These are tuned to Power BI service. It is not like interactive BI reports, where it gets automatically refreshed. This is the default behavior.
Hello,
I am able to use the search function / copy and paste a value into the parameter spot when I come into the report after refreshing within Chrome, but after the report has already ran once, when I go to search and select that new value and then click the View Report it doesn't update the report, it keeps the previously selected value.
Thanks!
Looks like tough scenario, without screenshots. Let us do some steps to diagnose further. In order to do this, let us pick three values for the (one) parameter you are searching.
(A) Let us see the data for each value selected. This is to check the data exists for that parameter value. You see the data for each value!
all good!
It is not the parameter value vs report data. it is purely parameter value passing.
(B) Refresh the report, first time ~ fresh rendering, select two values of the parameter, run the report. After you ran the report, do this step. Click the file menu, click the generate link. Copy and paste in the notepad.
(C) With your search step, select the third value and then click the run report button. let the repor run. After you ran the report, do this step. Click the file menu, click the generate link. Copy and paste in the notepad.
Now, you can compare the two links and see whether the third value is getting added or not. If no differences, then there is some issue here. If you find the third value in the link, then try the (D)
(D) Now take the link from (C) and run in new tab and see if there is all data coming or not.
... hope this lengthy approach will help you to identify the issue as data, parameter value, parameter selection and rendering the report.
(1) This is private data that should not be shared. This data is correct and showing what it should within the parameter box there is no problem there.
(2) This is a single select parameter, so it only allows 1 selection. It works if searching on page load/refresh and then making a selection from that search.
(3)Once I press view report and a report has run it shows as it should with the correct data.
(4)Once I go to search for a new parameter without refreshing page the value I am searching shows up within the parameter box and the search works fine there, but once I make a seleciton from that search and click View Report, it appears to run a new report, but it just reloads the previous report even though a different selection is in the parameter selection box. (Below shows an example of a searched and selected values with view report ran and it didn't update the values)
Note: If search isn't used and another value is selected manually, all works fine.
Did you do this step?
FYI, I tried my reports:
Selected one value from the dropdown, ran the report. After it ran successfully, copied the link and paste in notepad. Then search for another value, the list gets filtered, selected one more, clicked the view report. after it ran successfully, copied the link and pasted in notepad. Compared both. It keeps adding value as "&rp:<Parameter name>=<Parameter value>"
Yes, and it isn't passing and doesn't show in the link but that is our issue, when we search a value, and select it and then hit view report after the report has already ran with another value the parameter isn't getting passed through which is an issue because we don't want to require the user to have to refresh the page each time they need to search.
Sorry, I dont know what to say.
For me, even for the first time, if I use the search, when I type in it filters and keep selecting, it shows and adds the parameter values. I tried in Edge, Chrome, and Firefox, it all worked the same behavior.
