PBIRS inital install, no permissions

Hi,

I've installed PBIRS and performed the setup options, but the user that's configured has no admin options. When I navigate to the Report Server web portal I see an error "Could not load folder contents. You are not allowed to view this folder. Contact your administrator to obtain the necessary permissions." And, the only option that appears under settings is "My subscriptions".
This user is a member of the administrators group. I use this login for everything. All of the explanations seem to be pretty much outdated. I've tried opening Edge as an admin, I'm unable to add "Run as different user", and a couple other people at my company have got it working but they cannot remember how they did it.
Can anyone help me figure out how to get my user admin access? Do I need to create the db records manually?

Hi @Anonymous ,

Ensure that you are signed in to Microsoft Edge with the correct email account. This ensures that authentication tokens, single sign on , and access to organizational resources function correctly.

Additionally Clear your browser cache and history, restart Microsoft Edge, and then retry the action to ensure no outdated data is interfering with authentication or loading.

Finally, Some authentication settings are only exposed via  group policy. To view or edit them:

Click Windows + R, and then type gpedit.msc and click enter

Search for Microsoft Edge and check for the required authentication settings.

Check if any authentication or HTTP settings are causing the issue here.

I hope this information helps. Please do let us know if you have any further queries.
Thank you

Clearing out my browser history for the 3rd time worked! I don't know why it wasn't working before, but I have access now and I'm good to go.

Thank you so much for your help, everybody! I am very grateful to you all.

Sorry, I've been juggling a few too many things lately.

Unfortunately, the suggestions posted did not work for me, and I'm still unable to access the PowerBI Report Server with administrator access.

I am on Windows 11 and the browser requirements only list for Windows 10. Is that perhaps the problem?

No, Windows 10 is the minimum. Windows 11 works just fine.

It must be something with the Edge authentication, but I cannot figure out how to confirm or change the default method. There is no setting that begins with "auth" that I can find. Any help with this aspect is much appreciated.

I have tried all of the suggestions. Microsoft Edge does not show up at all under the group policy software settings, and clearing my browser and cache is not working either.

Any other suggestions, I hope?

I am trying to apply what you told me in the first reply - I cannot figure out how to check on what authentication details Edge is using. Can you point me in the right direction?

Hi @Anonymous  ,
Thanks for reaching out to the Microsoft fabric community forum.

Please check the browser requirements for the web portal and check if the cause of the error is because of lack of support for the browser.

Browser support for Power BI Report Server - Power BI | Microsoft Learn

Another possible reason for the error is due to authentication issue with browser,
The following table identifies the default authentication types supported by each browser running on a Windows operating system.

No, you should never edit the db

Running the browser as admin on the machine where PBIRS is installed should work. From there you can add your user to the System Admin role in site settings and use the Manage Folder button on the home page to add yourself as a Content Manager to the home folder.

If other users in your company already have access you could also just ask them to add your user to the above roles.

For some reason running browser as an admin didn't work. We tried adding the db records manually and that didn't work either.

This is just a local install for development purposes, but it is critical that we get this working. There are no other users, just me.

Any thoughts on what might be going on if running as admin in the browser doesn't work?

Did you do this on the server? Usually the local admins on the server has rights to the home folder unless someone has removed that.

One of your colleagues with rights to the home folder should be able to add you - did you try that?
