Migrating Power BI Report Server to another server

Hello - this is more of a general question for migrations. We have an instance of Power BI Report Server (May 2020) running on an older server that I'm moving to a VM. I'm at the point where I'm installing Power BI Report Server on the VM. Do the report server versions have to match or can I just install the latest?

Hi @derekm ,

As far as I know, the server is backward compatible but the desktop clients are not. If someone were to use the March 2020 version they could save to the May 2020 server. If someone were to use the October 2020 desktop version they would not be able to save to the server.

Best Regards

Lucien
