Hi everyone,
I've got some difficulties to understand the purpose of Report Server.
I need to update the Desktop version because we have an old version dating of 2017.
We're using Report Server.
Can I install the "classic" Desktop or do I need to download a specific one (just for Report Server) ?
Can you give me the link ?
I know that there's less functionalities on desktop report server.
Thanks by advance for your help,
Yes there is, and for the Report Server version of PBI, the month of the version of the Desktop designer matches with the version of the Report Server itself.
Easy to check as you may well know is to look at the top bar's text to check what version you are on.
Hi @mpsrshl
Thnxx, I don't know how to check the version of the report server itself.
Do you mean when I'm connect to the Report Server service ?
Sorry if it's a dumb question !
Thanks by advance,
@Anonymous
this is RS version:
this is Desktop (no month name):
You can create a report in Desktop version then upload it to Report server but it could be not compatible if you are using newest functionality

Ok and how can I download the 2017's version of Desktop RS ?
Because, when I'm on Microsoft, I don't have the choice, it's downloading the most recent version available.
Thanks by advance,
I've not used any 2017 version of RS, but in the 2019 version we have now and the 2018 version we've used there is a download button on the menu bar of the Report Server Web Portal that should in theory download the matching desktop client, at least in my experience it always has.
I would also push to get your server version updated by whoever manages it as you are obviously a few versions behind and missing out on some good updates.
@Anonymous
you can download Desktop RS version here https://powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/report-server/
choose PBIDesktopRS or PBIDesktopRS64
you can create report in the standart Desktop version but it could be a problem with new functionality compability

Thank you very much, it's really clear
