How will users edit the report in Power BI report server - Access and Client related?

Hi,

Once developer publishes the report to report server, there are few Power Users who will need to edit the report (They will not have admin rights on their machines for sure).

1. When user click on edit report, will PBI desktop open with a client OR pre-installation of PBI Desktop for report server is requried on Power User machines?

2. Once first step is complete, how will Power user connect to database to refresh? I mean what options do we have?

a. They will not have access to DB?

b. Service account cred's can be saved and same can be used when power user make changes to report?

c. Any other possible options when they dont have access to DB and we cant share service account password to power users?

Thanks

  • Hi Anonymous,

    1. If the client already have installed the desktop, it will prompt you open the report in desktop.

    2. When the client open the report in the desktop, to make sure the data can be refreshed successfully, the user needs to go to Data source Settings to verify valid crendetial.
