Help: Report Server Scheduled refresh not working

PowerBI Report Server Version: 1.21.9032.4573(V2024.09)

Recently, I have noticed that some scheduled task refreshes have been consistently failing.

The error message for the task is:

SessionID: e47bdc6e-2ff4-4f43-a646-608829630077
[0] -1056505856: COM
错误 : Microsoft.PowerBI.ReportServer.ASEngineManagedRoot, Datasource dsn=hivecdp is not found.

However this data source (odbc) does exist, and it can be successfully connected on the data source interface of the report. And it also connect successfully from the server.

And not all scheduled tasks report errors, only some. After the error, I can manually start the task and it can start normally again

Make sure you have your ODBC driver configured as System DSN.

User DSN is valid when using Powerbi Desktop, but when you publish on the server you ALSO need to have the same ODBC source configured, otherwise the server has no possiblity to connect.

Good luck

Hi,@Buddy_C .I am glad to help you.

Regarding scheduled refreshes in the Power BI Report Server Web Protal, refresh efficiency depends on server performance and available memory, and scheduled refreshes may fail (unlike Power BI Service) if the capacity is insufficient or if too many refresh schedules are executed in the same time period.

I notice that the connector you are using is ODBC and the connection string is dsn = hivecdp
Data source credential Settings are also correct, using windows authentication.
However, the error message indicates that the data source cannot be found
You mentioned that this refresh is not guaranteed to fail (there are success stories)
Please read the official troubleshooting document carefully, which contains operations such as viewing error logs.
Please conduct more systematic troubleshooting according to the document and provide more detailed log error information. (The reasons for the planned refresh error in the report server may be various, such as parameter configuration problems, capacity and memory pressure, or version update issues.)

about odbc settings:
How do I set use "Database" Customs Tasks in PBRS?
 about can not find datasourcexxx
It cannot be ruled out that this may be a version issue

Solved: Fix for "Datasource XXXXXX Not Found" PowerBI Refr... - Microsoft Fabric Community

If you need to test this solution, please make a backup of your important data (including some PBRS configuration files) in advance to avoid data loss

If you can provide more detailed configuration information and error logging, this can help resolve your problem.

I hope my suggestions give you good ideas, if you have any more questions, please clarify in a follow-up reply.
Best Regards,
