DAX Query View

Power BI Desktop (RS):  Version: 2.129.2203.0 64-bit (May 2024)

After using DAX Query View I am unable to save changes back to the Report Server and I receive this message: 'Unable to save document' An error occurred while attempting to save the report to Power BI Report Server.

If I try and save to my local c: drive that works fine however, I am unable to upload the report and receive the following message: 'Can't upload this report. We're not able to upload this report. The report was created with a recent version of Power BI Desktop that is not yet supported by the server.
Power BI Report Server:  Version: 1.20.8959.12285(May 2024)

This behaviour exhibits in existing reoports and when creating a simple new report from a basic single table data model.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

    Hi, trevorh909

Not being able to upload to a report service after using DAX Query view seems to be a limitation. Perhaps you can skip the feature for a while and use a different approach to the same query and analysis. For example, using DAX Studio is a powerful tool for writing and debugging DAX queries. You can write queries in DAX Studio.

I create a sample table in Power BI Desktop(RS):

Then open DAX Studio, It will automatically detect the PBIX file you have opened

Connect it, and use DAX query:

  • Thank you for the solution but I don't think it will work in my case though, because I run PowerBI Report Server as a remote application to connect to the on premises servers, but I appreciate that would work if I were not running the application this way, so I will accept the solution. I hope in future updates to Power BI report server version will resolve this issue with the bug when usisng the DAX query view.

    Hi, trevorh909

I use Power BI Desktop(May 2024) to create a sample PBIX and save as file, upload to the Power BI Report Server. Then open this file in Power BI Desktop(not RS version), save and upload.

When I open the file again with the RS version of Power BI Desktop, save it with the modifications, and publish it to Report Server, I am able to replace the original file and the added measures are visible

You can check if you are using another Power BI Desktop when you modify the report. If so, you just need to open the report in the RS version of Power BI Desktop, save it, and upload it.

      Hi

I have checked I am definitely only using the Report Server version  2.129.2203.0 64-bit (May 2024).  Just adding a new page to DAX Query view and saving creates the same 'Unable to save document' message. If I don't use DAX Query view and then edit the document and save document there is no issue. It is real shame because I really like using the DAX Query view feature.
