Connection error from both Create Paginated Report (Preview) web service from semantic model
- 1 year ago
Hey there!
Here are some possible fixes to your problem:
Power BI Paginated Reports require Fabric Premium or Premium Per User (PPU).
Fix: Check if you need an upgrade to Fabric Premium for paginated reports to work. The error suggests Power BI can’t connect to Analysis Services (MSOLAP).
Fix: Verify your dataset’s connection settings in Power BI Service. If your data is on-premises, you need an On-Premises Data Gateway.
Fix: Ensure the gateway is installed and running.Your user account may not have the right permissions for Analysis Services.
Fix: Check security settings in Azure SQL & Power BI Service. If none of this works, there could be a temporary outage or bug affecting paginated reports. So you should try again in a few hours or tomorrow!
Hope this helps!

Hi ucmaoTWG ,
Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Fabric Community, and also thank you freginier for providing helpful guidance much of which aligns well with the root causes of the issue you're facing.
The error you're seeing typically indicates a failure to connect to an on-premises Analysis Services data source, often due to a missing or misconfigured On-Premises Data Gateway. Since you're connecting to a report server and not Azure SQL, please ensure the gateway is properly installed, configured, and matches the connection details in your report.
Also, confirm your user account has the necessary permissions on the Analysis Services instance. Regarding licensing, while Pro users can now publish paginated reports to “My Workspace,” deploying them to shared workspaces still requires Fabric Premium or PPU.
For a deeper understanding, we recommend reviewing the following Microsoft docs: Data Gateway Setup, Paginated Reports FAQ, and Publishing Paginated Reports.
If this post helps, then please give us Kudos and consider Accept it as a solution to help the other members find it more quickly.
Thankyou.
