Cannot load model

Hi,

When I open my .pbix file in Power BI Desktop app, I immediately get this message:

Interestingly, the associated PowerBI report in the workspace seems to be refreshing from the model (and linked datasources) regularly.

I need to make changes to the model however, and I can't do so in PowerBI Desktop, because of the 'Cannot load model' window. None of the visualisations appear in the Desktop app when i close the error message.

I have found this page that refers to 'Analysis Services' also, but I don't know whether this is the right place to go to to try and rectify and overcome the issue.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,@Anonymous I am glad to help you.

Can you please tell me if you are only getting this problem when opening this pbix file in power BI desktop, does this problem arise on the service? Does the issue only occur when opening this problem report or is it for all pbix files, if you can check these it will help you to find the problem.

Luckily I found a similar and resolved issue, hope this helps!

Going back to the issue itself, based on your description, I believe this would be a validation issue with the data source credentials (certificates).
Please make sure that the authentication used by your data source (AS model) to connect to power BI Desktop is correct and the computer is authorized to access your Analysis Services database.
You can try deleting the data source connection record that already exists in power BI Desktop and remove the cache.

Try power bi desktop and reopen your pbix file.

2. For Power BI Service, make sure that you have set up the data source credentials correctly and that the gateway connection is authenticated correctly. If you are connecting to an AS model and have User Mapping configured in the gateway connection, make sure that the connection connects to the AS model correctly and that the mapping is correct.

For these operations, you can try to create a connection to the AS model data source through SQL Server Profiler to trace the connection request, and see whether the connection request can be effectively traced to the destination data source when you open the report on the power bi desktop and service.

At the same time, please make sure that the gateway connection and Admin portal related settings on the service are correct, to avoid the impact of errors.

I hope my suggestions give you good ideas, if you have any more questions, please clarify in a follow-up reply.
Best Regards,
