@pranim,
Before you can connect to a MySQL database, you need to install MySQL Connector/Net 6.6.5 for Microsoft Windows on your computer. Select the driver that matches your Power BI Desktop installation (32-bit or 64-bit).
After installing the MySQL connector, refer to this blog to connect to MySQL in Power BI Desktop.
If the connection still fails in Power BI Desktop, please check that if you are able to connect to the MySQL database in MySQL workbench, ensure that MySQL workbench is installed in the same machine as Power BI Desktop.
Regards,
Hi guys,
I have been trying in vain for the past 10 days and on different machines. I went through installing and un-installing various versions of connectors and Power BI and had no luck. I raised a ticket with Microsoft and they called promptly and tried everything that I tried over the past 10 days. They collected logs and promised to revert. But I got it working as soon as I finished with their call.
What worked for me is:-
1. Install latest connector from https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/
2. Install ODBC from https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/
3. Open Power BI
4. Get data from other sources.
5. Select MySql Database.
6. Input Server IP or Host name (port number is optional as with or with port number gave me the same results)
7. Input database name.
8. Use Database credentials instead of Windows Credentials.
9. Enter database username and password
10. Select which level to apply these settings to (from the drop down) to the ipaddress/hostname;databasename
And you are connected.
Hope this works for you guys.

Ridiculous that this issue persists. I could only get MySQL to connect to Power BI by going WAY back in the connector archive to version 8.0.26. Why is this an ongoing problem/issue and why aren't these common DB connectors installed WITH Power BI in the first place?
And even that version did not work. Tried mariaDB method as well; nothing works with MySQL - it just will not connect.
pls i have the same issues, i have downloaded the connector, but it keeps poping up the same error of me needing to download my sql connector.
Hi,
I've installed the MySQL Connector from Oracle, but when I click Get Data and select MySQL I get this:
I've tried restarting PowerBI but to no avail, do I need to reboot my PC?
Hi Marcus,
Install version 8.02 and restart your system.
It will work perfectly fine
I am having exactly the same issue. I have installed the connector but having the same issue.
Did you had any luck?
Nishant
I installed 8.0.16 connector and then used a MariaDB connection in PowerBI, that worked.
Let me know if this helps - it seems strange that nobody from Oracle/Microsoft has a solution!
thanks
So you saying that 8.0.16 works but 8.0.29 (latest one) doesn't?
That is weird. Surprised, MS doesn't have this in their documentation
In this day and age I'm more surprised when MS does have anything correct in their documentation.
Thanks MarcusR1. Really helped pinpoint the issue I was having. 8.0.32 doesn't seem to get recognized by Power BI either.
Yes that's correct. I worked backwards trying several older versions and 8.0.16 was the 'newest' that worked.
Is it possible to connect from an other computer, different where the MySQL db is installed?

Regards,
I tried the same solution and even more but still does not work so what should I do now
I am having similar issues
I am on Mysql 8.2.0
I am connecting to this DB from power bi desktop using my sql connector . PBI version is Version: 2.136.1478.0 64-bit (September 2024)
I downloaded the latest version of connector Connector/NET 9.1.0, restarted the power BI but it would not connect .
When is MS going to improve their products?
I have a solution that worked for me . Hope this works for you as well . Ensure you select the complete option when installing .
What if I already have installed some 8.x version ?
Once I upgraded to mysql-connector-net-8.0.18, it will throw "MySQL: Unable to connect to any of the specified MySQL hosts." error. When I use the latest version 8.0.27, it will throw ""An error happened while reading data from the provider: 'Connection option 'server' is duplicated" error message.
My database version remain unchanged at 5.1.73 - but now with the connector upgrade, I am no longer able to connect. The previous version 6.6.5 no longer works 😞 Any ideas?
Today, current version is 8.0.18. It can be downloaded from https://dev.mysql.com/get/Downloads/Connector-Net/mysql-connector-net-8.0.18.msi
