There is not enough memory to complete this action

I've been having a problem for several days when working in Power Query from Excel, I detail: after combining 2 queries I close Power Query to create a "PivotTable report" (checking Add this data to the data model) I get the message "There is not enough memory to complete this action. Close other applications, use the 64-bit version of Excel, or consider adding memory to the device."

Hi @Ajoaquin36

Thanks for reaching for Microsoft Forum community, we appreciate your inquiry regarding the "Not enough memory" error in Power Query. Along with the helpful suggestions from @rohit1991 , we would like to offer additional methods and best practices to optimize memory usage and enhance performance in Power Query.

  • Consider using Power BI Desktop instead of Excel. It handles larger data volumes and offers superior data modeling.
  • For large datasets, consider using an incremental refresh strategy in Power BI or other compatible data sources. This loads only new or changed data, saving space.

hi @Ajoaquin36 ,
You can try these:

To fix the "Not enough memory" error in Power Query:

  1. Switch to 64-bit Excel: Handles larger memory allocations.
  2. Optimize Queries: Remove unnecessary columns/rows, disable previews, and use Table.Buffer.
  3. Split Complex Queries: Break into smaller parts.
  4. Optimize Data Model: Avoid adding unused data to the model and reduce dimensions.
  5. Increase Virtual Memory: Adjust system paging file size.
  6. Close Other Applications: Free up system resources.
  7. Avoid Data Model: Load data directly to PivotTable.
