Test current executing context in M language

Hello everyone.

I have a powerBi report which loads data from an Excel file, classicaly.

But due to network problems (very slow from time to time), I'd like to get the Source Excel file either from local filesystem (when executing on PowerBi desktop), and from a sharepoint directory when executing on the cloud.

But I don't want to have 2 different .pbix.

So I need in my PowerQuery M, when defining the Source origin of my Excel data file, to dynamically test the context of execution (local PC or sharepoint).

Is it possible to do that ?

Thank you in advance if you have an idea.

Hi @ORDR ,

You can add two sources into your query, then control them with a toggle query, something like this:

// toggleQuery
let
    Source = 1
in
    Source

// queryToToggle
let
    source1 = connectToSharePointSource,
    source2 = connectToFileSystemSource,
    selectSource = if toggleQuery = 1 then Source1 else Source2,
    otherTransformations = Function(selectSource, each doStuff)
in
    otherTransformations
