Importing excel worksheet from 97-2003 workbook

Hello, 

 

I'm attempting connect PowerBI to an excel workbook version 97-2003.  There is only one worksheet of the ~65 in the workbook that I want to get data from however even when I select only the single worksheet, the model loads the whole workbook each time.  The other worksheets don't load into the model however when it is processing it does reference each individual one and then says 'loaded xxxx rows' .  

 

I believe I saw the Power Query only works to import with 2007 beyond.  Is this what's causing my issues?

    pmarston,

    Do you directly connect to Excel from Power BI Service or use Power BI Desktop to connect to the Excel? Power BI Service supports importing or connecting to workbooks created in Excel 2007 and later. Workbooks must be saved as .xlsx or .xlsm file type and be under 1 GB.

    You are able to connect to Excel workbook version 97-2003 as long as you install Access Database Engine in the Power BI Desktop machine.  Could you please post a screenshot about  "it does reference each individual one and then says loaded xxxx rows"? Could you please share the Excel file so that I can test?
