Automatic Data Refresh with OnPrem Excel

I am able to successfully create schedules for automatic data refresh to SQL Server, but when I try to use a Excel file as a datasource, I am always told that I have an invalid login.  I have tried Basic with machinename\username, username, Windows, and Anonymous.  None of these were successful. Any assistance would be appreciated.
