Paginated Reports January 2021 Feature Summary

Welcome to our very first update of 2021!  We have several exciting updates rolling out this month for paginated reports,  including  an improved publishing experience in Power BI Report Builder, additional sample reports, Microsoft Dataverse connectivity and much more!  Read on to learn more about all of these exciting new developments.

New release of Power BI Report Builder

With the latest release of Power BI Report Builder, we've heard your feedback and aligned the publishing experience with that in Power BI Desktop.  We've updated the application with a new "Publish" action that replaces certain steps previously needed to complete when saving to the service.  We've also surfaced the publish action directly in the toolbar as well.  To get started, download the latest version of Power BI Report Builder.

In this update, if you open a report from the service, the Save option on the File menu will be disabled.  Instead, you can save your changes back to the service selecting the Publish option from either location.  To read more about these updates, check out how to publish to the service  documentation.

We are glad to hear our official Paginated report samples helped you!  With that in mind, we have added a couple more for you to download and use in the Power BI service. To learn more, check out the documentation on  how to download the sample reports from GitHub.

Microsoft Dataverse connectivity now available

We now offer direct connectivity to Microsoft Dataverse with paginated reports in Power BI.  With this support comes the ability to use the native relational query designer for  SQL in the product.  This allows you to create your queries against Dataverse just like you would when using any SQL data source.

Additional updates

Across the Power Platform we have updated our product icons. You have probably seen this new style rolling out across Microsoft products including Office and Dynamics, and we've now updated Power BI Report Builder with this new look.

We also know many of you are excited to hear more details around the new Premium per user license we first announced at Ignite in September 2020 and is currently in public preview.  You should expect to hear much more around this new license type at the upcoming virtual Ignite conference starting March 2nd.

We hope you are as excited about these updates as we are, and be sure to leave your feedback in the comments below.  Have a great weekend!
