Tl,dr: Enabling per-slicer, per-slide update behavior would therefore be very valuable to enhance this already helpful feature!
This feature is highly appreciated, as it significantly improves the handling of Power BI report pages and visuals in PowerPoint presentations, especially when these are maintained centrally for recurring monthly review meetings.
However, one important limitation remains: updates can currently only be applied to the embedded report as a whole.
At present, the update process does not preserve the context of individual slicers. As a result, monthly refreshes still require considerable manual effort.
For example, imagine a Power BI report page is embedded into a PowerPoint slide. The underlying report contains three slicers:
In the live Power BI report, the Calendar slicer is typically updated each month to the latest fiscal year period.
By contrast, the Entity and Product slicers should remain fixed for the respective PowerPoint slide, because that slide is specifically designed to show results for one dedicated entity and one dedicated product.
Ideally, when the embedded report is refreshed in PowerPoint on a monthly basis:
- the Calendar slicer should update automatically to reflect the latest default period from the live report, while
- the Entity and Product slicers should remain unchanged on the slide, since their filtering context is intentionally constant over time.
Currently, this is not the case. During each update, the settings for Entity and Product are lost and must be manually reapplied on every slide and page. This makes the monthly update process unnecessarily time-consuming and cumbersome.
Enabling per-slicer, per-slide update behavior would therefore be very valuable to enhance this already helpful feature!
Such functionality would allow users to define which slicers should follow the default state of the live report and which slicers should remain fixed within the PowerPoint slide context.
This improvement would greatly reduce manual maintenance effort and make the integration between Power BI and PowerPoint far more efficient for recurring reporting scenarios.
