Unable to Start Power BI Desktop (We weren't able to connect to the model)

Unable to Start Power BI Desktop Store app on first run if my Windows Display Language in Windows 10 Settings is set to "English (Hong Kong SAR)", unless I change to "English (United States)" and run it once and change the Region setting to other language in Power BI Options.

Hi @Anonymous,

I can't reproduce this issue since I already launched with 'EN-US' locale. What version of power bi desktop do you test? Can you reproduce this on other devices which not install the power bi desktop before?

I use the latest Microsoft Store version and can reproduce this on another device. There's no problem for the MSI version, as I can choose the UI language during setup. I also found that if I install the MSI version after installed the Store version, the Store version can run without problem, because the MSI installer will add the "UICulture" with "en-US" as value at "HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft Power BI Desktop" in registry.

 

You may reproduce it by changing your default locale and Windows Display Language to en-HK, and choose "Use Windows default display language" in the Power BI Region Settings.
