Microsoft App will not refresh data

Hello kind Power BI people,

I have downloaded the Microsoft Power BI app for my computer.

When I press on the update button (second rom the right), it won't update the dataset but it looks like it is refreshing the page anyway (i don't know why).

does anyone know if you can refresh the dataset directly within the app?

Hey @Anonymous ,

The Windows app is a reader app, that provides only content consumption experience for Power BI users.

It does not have all service capabilities, and more specifically it does not have admin or content owner capabilities.

The app was designed to allow report/dashboard viewing, also supporting touch and offline - so you can enjoy your Power BI content when you are travelling (for example).

The refresh button will tell the app to fetch again the report data from the service, and if the report is a direct query report, then to fetch new data from the datasource, but it does not trigger "dataset refresh".

Thanks, Maya

I am not sure I totally understand your issue, but Power BI does not update a dataset - it reads from a dataset.   So if your dataset (SQL Server, Excel, etc) was updated by another source, you can refresh the data in Power BI to update your visuals with the new data.  You can not write back to the dataset from within Power BI natively (you would need to integrate a PowerApp for that).  Please let me know by a Kudo if this helps.

Thanks!

Power BI have launched an app in the microsoft store. The App ilooks like service, but is just located on the computer and not with a URL. Within this app one can view the reports that have been shared. There is a button called 'update' but when I press it, the update time doe not change for the report.

I do not understand why one has to go to Service to update the report manually, when there is an 'update' button within the app.

I know it's a bit confusing, i'm sorry 😞
